What is Trans-personal Art Therapy

A personal journey that has a purpose, vision, values, strategy and goals!

My name is Melinda Addington, I am passionate about my family and the community. I am friendly, caring, trustworthy, respectful, openness to new experiences and a good listener.

I am hearing impaired and I am on the waiting list to get my Cochlear implant done in 2021. Due to my hearing impairment I have been limited to what I can do although this hasn't stopped me from giving things a go.

I have had an amazing journey supporting the community. I started my career as a preschool teacher assistant, childcare worker and Sunday school teacher.

I have also supported those that have come out of rehabilitation to transition into their home after experiencing a serious accident or an impairment due to health reasons.

This followed on with supporting those living with mental health, ABI (Acquired Brain Injury), Stroke, Dementia, Intellectual Disability, Epilepsy, Autism and ADHD, Schizophrenia, Drugs and Alcohol. As a support worker I assisted people in their homes and accessed the community.

I have a good understanding of the indiginous culture and have supported clients and their extended families in my role as a support worker. I have supported clients through the justice system and those who self harmed.

I currently Volunteer in Police Rangers as an instructor and have connections with the lions club, community and surrounds.

In saying this, working with others has supported me throughout my whole career and I thrive to continue to help others in the community. I have fulfilled the requirement and been awarded the Advanced Diploma of Transpersonal Art Therapy in 2019. I have gained a lot of knowledge doing short courses and going to seminars to expand my knowledge on ABI, manual handling workshops, medication training, First Aid, CHUBB- Confine small workplace emergencies, Quality, Safety and You - NDIS Worker Orientation.

Also, I have been awarded for Support Worker of the year in 2017 and I have received awards for being supportive in Police Rangers as a leader.

Art therapy is all about achieving goals. It’s a way of expressing your feelings in a creative way, often without words. We use mediums such as painting, drawing, constructive art making, dance and movement, meditation to explore and gain new insights. Art therapy allows you to create a personal journey, your own journey. This is done in a safe space and I will let you take ownership of that space during each session. You don’t need to be an artist as we focus on the process of the art making and not the product.  Please note we are not psychologist, Counselors or Advice given.
